F. How do I add an image gallery?

  1. Prepare your images. They should be 1000px or less along the longest edge.
  2. Give your images readable names. The names of your images will match the filenames.
  3. NOTE: currently the gallery can only organize images in reverse alphabetical order. So if you want them to show up in a particular order, make a number the first part of the file name. E.g. ‘01_thisphoto.jpg’. Make the lowest number your last image, and the highest number your first image. (This is a shortcoming of the software we’re using, and we can’t change it from our end. Hopefully it will be upgraded in future.)
  4. Log into your account.
  5. If you haven’t already done so, add the latest photos application (see “What are Applications?”).
  6. Click on the ‘Upload Images’ button. We recommend a dozen or so images per gallery. You can create additional galleries. Focus on what you feel is your best work, rather than a large but uneven collection.
  7. If you have no galleries yet, click on the link in the phrase “No album created yet. Create one now.”
  8. Give your album a name and description. It’s a good idea to include your own name in the title.
  9. If you want to add images to an existing gallery, select it from the ‘Upload multiple files at once’ dropdown menu.
  10. Click on ‘Create Album’.
  11. You will come to the Upload Multiple Images page. You can upload one image at a time, or a whole collection. First, click on ‘Browse’. This will access the files on your computer.
  12. You can select more than one image at a time by selecting all the titles you like.
  13. When you are ready, click ‘Upload Queue’.
  14. Open the gallery and check through the images to make sure they look the way you intended.
  15. Click on each image in your album. You will see the word 'edit' beside each image name. Please change this to the proper name of the piece of work. This is important for your visitors as well as Google.
  16. If you wish, you can add tags in a field at the bottom of the window under each image. These may help people find your images by content or style. For example, if an image was taken on or near Bowen Island, you may wish to add 'bowen island' as a tag.
