Preparing material for Dreaming Island is the same as prepping any sort of portfolio. It’s a bit like an exhibition as well, because information you post when you register will be public. (You can also post just for a certain group or your friends, but we hope most work will be public.)
- Portrait – A square picture of your real face. You’re not as ugly as you think! Visitors are much more likely to take interest in your work if it’s not anonymous. Plus the synergy begins when people can recognize you. Artists on average make over 75% of their sales face to face.
- Artist Statement – This is the who, what, when, where, why and how of what you’ve done and what you’re doing. It’s the story of your exploration. Or a brief outline will do.
- Bio – this may include your life story, your education, goals and triumphs, the creative component of your work history, or just a simple paragraph about your current situation.
- Content – The format will vary from person to person. Painters and photographers will use jpeg images (with a longest edge of 1000 pixels or less), as well as caption information if they wish. People in film and the performing arts can provide jpegs or videos. Writers can post their words in a similar way to a blog (but think of it as a library of your best words). Musicians can upload tracks as MP3 or other formats. Bloggers can email us their blog RSS feed address, or their site address and we’ll review the feed for inclusion.
- Amount – Your profile page may not give you enough space to contain everything you have to say. No problem. Just reduce the text for the profile, then add articles with the full text. (See ‘How do I add writing?’)
- Your best – Your online studio features a limited selection of your best work, rather than a giant collection of everything you’ve ever done. You can always edit your content. If you would like to show a larger selection, we can help you build a website.
